Hailing from Denver, CO, Miss Orchid Mei (from the Chinese Mei li de Lan Hua, meaning beautiful orchid) is a Los Angeles based burlesque performer aspiring to integrate traditional Chinese and Korean dances while gravitating toward movements that embody beauty, grace, and class with subtle provocation and allegory.
Under the tutelage of award-winning traditional Chinese and number-one ribbon dancer in Taiwan, Mei has brought the art of daizi (ribbons), chang biao shan (ribbon fan), sui shou (long sleeve) to the burlesque stage. Most notably, the ribbon fan which has become a staple on burlesque stages across the globe.
Miss Orchid Mei has been featured in Jane Briggeman’s second book dedicated to the legends of burlesque; “BURLESQUE: A Living History”, Bachelor Pad magazine, PinCurl magazine, and has done shows for Cointreau, Mumm, and the Dresden Dolls. She has also had the honor of winning awards for her performances in Boston, Texas, Atlanta, and London.
