2022 Virtual DisabiliTease Festival
The 2022 Virtual DisabiliTease Festival is a multi-day festival (held via Zoom) that showcases performers with disabilities in the areas of burlesque, cirque, cabaret, and drag. This annual event works to challenge and overturn the notion that having a disability decreases or interferes with a person's desirability, allure, or competence as a performer.
This year's Headliner is Twirlisha Devine. Our Features are Crystal Mischief, Sinasaurus Vex, Tas Al-Ghul, and Azzure Service (in memoriam).
Our goal is to include a wide variety of performers at the intersection of disability with a variety of genders and variations of, ages, sizes, abilities, races and ethnicities, locations, beliefs, and sexual orientations, whenever possible. The DisabiliTease Festival strives to provide a safe space for artistic expression and performance and training opportunities.
Launched in 2019, with the first show in 2020, the festival provides an opportunity to performers who are often overlooked, underestimated, or deemed too difficult to book due to necessary accommodations to receive the validation and recognition they deserve. It also creates an experience for both performers and audience members, who may otherwise encounter barriers to events like these.
